An on-duty Lower Makefield Township Police officer on patrol spotted something that set off his ‘spidey senses’ and now a Yardley man is charged with aggravated assault, fleeing, resisting arrest and two traffic summary charges.
According to the criminal complaint, Thomas Anthony Carelli Jr was sitting in a white in color SUV parked in the area of the Lower Makefield Twp community pool. The patrolling officer notified the Bucks County Radio Room he was leaving his patrol unit to make contact with the as yet unidentified suspect. As the officer approached, the suspect began to flee the area despite commands to stop.
Officer Reardon jumped back into his marked patrol unit, initiated lights and sirens, pursued the suspect east onto Edgewater Rd. as his myriad commands to stop were ignored. The fleeing motorist stopped his vehicle at the registered address, got out of the vehicle while still disobeying commands, and had to be taken physically to the ground even though a taser shot was deployed, court records show.
Police staff noted on Wednesday morning, Carelli Jr was so defiant that a booking photo was not taken and he would be detained at Bucks County Correctional Facility.
Carelli Jr. was arraigned at midnight Wednesday by a Bucks County Judge and posted bail of 10 percent of $30,000. His next court date is currently scheduled for July 30 and he has no attorney of record listed at this time.
