The woman struck and killed by a number of vehicles on U.S 1 was identified late Monday with sources reporting her severed left arm was found several miles away from the accident scene.
Alexandria Ridgeway, 29 of Philadelphia, authorities said, was either walking or trying to cross the “super highway” between I-295 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike at approximately 3:30 a.m. when she was struck by an unknown number of vehicles traveling in the southbound lane, with none of the motorists remaining on scene, officials said.
Later Monday what is believed to be Ridgeway’s severed left arm was found in the area of 8800 Pine Road in Philadelphia, law enforcement sources said.
Investigators have yet to say why the woman’s arm traveled what amounts to 8 miles in distance between where the hit and run occurred.
Police say, they have had quite a few leads and have followed up on information received throughout the day with the investigation continuing overnight and into Tuesday.
Police closed U.S 1 for hours backing up traffic throughout the area as they investigated the hit- and-run.
