Philadelphia Man Flees Police Stop, Crashes into Vehicle, Found Hiding Behind Tree, Police Say

A traffic stop on a reported out-of-state stolen vehicle led to the suspect fleeing, crashing into another vehicle, and fleeing police a second time on foot onto the Herbert Hoover Elementary School property where Middletown Twp. Police discovered the Philadelphia man hiding behind a tree.

District Judge Charles D. Jonas arraigned Raekwon Bess-Reeves last Tuesday on felony fleeing, receiving stolen property, five misdemeanor offenses and two driving related summary offenses. Unable to post 10 percent of $350,000 bail he was remanded to Bucks County Correctional Facility.

On February 11, 2025, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Middletown police on patrol observed a gray Honda Accord with a Virginia registration parked at a WAWA convenience store on 132 Bristol Oxford Rd, Langhorne in Middletown Twp. The Virginia registration displayed on the vehicle was listed as stolen, police wrote in court papers.

Once additional units responded to the area, the first officer activated their emergency lights and audible sirens. This initiated a traffic stop on Trenton Road near Middletown Athletic Association. The vehicle fled at high speeds. Police pursued the fleeing vehicle, with emergency lights and sirens still active but the vehicle continued to flee, said police

The Honda then crashed into another motorist on the road outside Middletown Trace Apartments. The crash victim was evaluated on scene by EMS, but the extent of their injuries was unknown at the time of publication.

Bess-Reeves then fled the crash scene on foot onto Herbert Hoover Elementary School’s property, police wrote in the affidavit.

Bess-Reeves was found hiding behind a tree in the recess area of the property. He was then taken into custody without further incident. A check of the suspect’s license status showed he was not licensed to drive. The 2022 Honda Accord Bess-Reeves was operating was checked and returned with a stolen status, police said in court records.

Bess-Reeves, 28, is scheduled to appear for a court date to answer to the charges on February 27.
