Morrisville Borough Fire Chief John Weiss hailed the success of the fire safety program the fire company put into effect last year during a presentation to Council.

Weiss, provided an overview of the all-volunteer fire company and its operations, including a report on the fire inspection program to the Morrisville Borough Council at September’s Council meeting.

The 100% volunteer fire company responds to an average of 500 calls annually including motor vehicle accidents, marine rescues, structure fires and more, said Weiss. He continued that the volunteers use various equipment such as an engine for fire suppression, a rescue truck for both fire suppression and rescue operations, two watercrafts for marine rescues, a special service truck for ground support, and two SUVs for chief officers, Weiss told council members.

No one at the fire company is  paid and they are extensively trained in firefighting, vehicle and technical rescue, swift water rescue, emergency medical services, hazardous materials operations, and other various operations, the fire chief explained.

Beyond emergency responses, members also dedicate significant time and effort to maintaining equipment, training, meetings, fundraisers, fire prevention, education, and community events. This requires personal sacrifice all without compensation, noted the fire chief.

Weiss said the fire inspection program has significantly reduced volunteer strain, enhanced safety, and improved emergency response times.

The key benefits, resulting Weiss said are fewer unsafe conditions, timely maintenance of emergency contact information, and quicker property management response. The Knox Box program, which enables faster emergency access, minimizes property damage, shortens volunteer on-scene time, reduces false alarms while decreasing unnecessary call volumes for volunteers, according to Weiss.

Weiss ended the presentation with the fact that the fire inspection program effectively reduces volunteer burden and improves community safety. “This is something we all can appreciate.”

In a related news, Council unanimously approved a millillage payment of $75,000 to the fire company as per the 2025 fire fund budget. This payment is contingent upon gas and diesel invoice payment in full. Also, Fire Prevention Week is in the first week of October. The fire company invites all to their Open House Event at the fire house on Tuesday, October 7 2025 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m, officials said.
