There’s that saying popularized on true crime shows and podcasts that goes something like anyone who has ever committed a serious crime lives in a constant state of anxiety knowing someday there will be that knock on the front door.

For 57-year-old Ted Campbell of Bronx, New York that knock came in the form of  Bucks County Sheriff’s Deputies picking him up  from a New York City jail last month.  He is charged with three felony theft-related counts and a records tampering misdemeanor pursuant to an arrest warrant filed by Morrisville authorities last fall.

According to the criminal complaint, on Saturday September 24, 2024 at approximately 1:05 p.m. Morrisville Police responded to a report of attempted fraud at the Citizens Bank located inside the Giant Food Store at 833 West Trenton Avenue.

Police met with a bank customer service rep (CSR). The bank CSR said a male attempted to cash a check for $32,500.00 using a fake New York ID with the name Kevin Gibbons on it. The bank CSR said she refused to cash the check and the man left the Giant Food Store, leaving the New York ID behind. The bank employee provided police with the New York ID.

Police submitted the ID through facial recognition which came back with a match for Ted Campbell, Bronx, New York.

Jason Mizenko, Giant Food Store Asset Protection Officer reviewed CCTV footage and provided a still photo of the suspect from the footage. The suspect in the footage matched Ted Campbell’s photo from the New Jersey ROIC Facial Recognition Initiative. He also matched the fake New York ID he gave to the CSR.

Police made contact with the victim, Kevin Gibbons, who advised police that he did not give anyone permission to withdraw $32,500.00 from his bank account and does not know a Ted Campbell.

Police tried to contact Ted Campbell but were unsuccessful.

On January 30, according to a Morrisville Borough Police Department press release, Bucks County Sheriff’s Deputies picked up Campbell from New York. Campbell was brought to police headquarters on the September 2024 arrest warrant. On-Call District Judge John T. Galloway arraigned the New York man on charges of felony forgery, identity theft, theft by deception, and a lesser misdemeanor charge. Campbell is currently in Bucks County Prison in lieu of 10 percent of $100,000.00 bail.

He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing next week.
