A crash that injured several children Thursday at Children of America Educational Childcare center in Upper Southampton Township continues to be investigated by the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, officials said on Friday. 

Three of the four children taken by ambulance have been released from the hospital. A fourth remains hospitalized with serious injuries. A fifth child who went separately to a hospital for treatment also has been also been released, the DA’s office said. 

The children ranging in age from 4 to 5 sustained the injuries when a vehicle crashed into the Day Care Center Thursday afternoon. The driver of the vehicle, a black BMW,  was treated and released from the hospital for minor injuries Thursday evening, officials said.  

Investigators say the driver was making a delivery to the childcare center when it crashed through the wall of a classroom at Children of America Educational Childcare on Knowles Avenue. The vehicle crashed through a classroom coming to rest at the  back wall of the classroom where 17 children were napping. 

Police have since reached out to the parents of each of the children to confirm the children’s physical well being and that they have received any treatment, the Bucks DA’s offices said.  Counseling services are being made available through the Network of Victim Assistance.

Police and the District Attorney’s Office commended the staff at the facility for their swift response to ensure the safety of the children at the facility during this traumatic incident.

Bucks County District Attorney’s Office Crash Investigation Team and the Upper Southampton Township Police Department are still investigating the crash with additional details to be released “pending the conclusion of its criminal investigation expected to last “at least several days,” investigators say.
