A Bucks County resident received a phone call Thursday regarding Medicare, with the caller ID showing that the call came from a phone number at the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.
The call did not come from the District Attorney’s Office. Bucks County Detectives are sharing this incident to warn residents of this type of scam, where a legitimate official number is spoofed to deceive the public.
The resident who received today’s call did not speak to the caller, but a voicemail was left on his machine referring to Medicare benefits. The alert resident noticed the suspicious activity, did not engage, and notified authorities.
Residents are reminded that government agencies and law enforcement will never contact you out of the blue to ask for personal Medicare information, Social Security numbers, or financial details over the phone.
If you receive a suspicious call regarding your benefits, hang up and contact the agency directly using a verified phone number.
