Bensalem Township School District recently announced that Four Diamonds Mini-THON® empowers K-12 students to raise funds and awareness to help conquer childhood cancer. Mini-THONs raise money for cancer care and research while having fun and learning work-ready skills.
BHS students have participated in the program for two years and has exceeded their goal of $10,000 both years.
Below is an example of how Mini-THON is making an impact:
- 361 hours of music therapy for patients to play instruments, sing and listen to or create music to alleviate pain and express feelings ($35/hour)
- 84 hours of Child Life services to help children cope with their treatment through play therapy and distraction techniques ($150/hour)
- 63 days for a clinical nutritionist to provide information and resources to help keep a child as healthy as possible and help reduce side effects of therapy ($200/day)
- Over 12 days for a team of dedicated social workers to support families with the adjustment from diagnosis, through treatment and into survivorship ($1,000/day)
- Over 11 hours of ongoing research, which focuses on finding better, safer treatments and cures for childhood cancer ($1,080/hour)
- Over 2 months to maintain essential research equipment at the Four Diamonds Pediatric Cancer Research Center ($4,500/month)
Congratulations to the BHS community and advisor Mrs. Karen Sibley.
