An Old Friend Opens Its Doors After Three Years

Along the beatific pathway up Radcliffe Street in Bristol Borough an old but still youthful friend remained quiet for three years. Now with newly added elegance, the Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library reopened its doors to rave reviews last Saturday.

The renovation project, that at times for locals seemed never ending, includes a roof completely redone, a rooftop terrace with new seating and gardens and the library also installed new carpet, paint, a café area, study rooms, and a reconstructed South Lawn. The project  took about three years to complete due to the Coronavirus pandemic and logistical challenges and impacts. While the library was closed to the public, it still offered limited library services like curbside pickup for book exchanges.

Mayor Ralph Diguiseppe III pointed out the library’s reopening is the same day as its original opening more than six decades ago.

“This Bristol Borough landmark first opened it’s doors to borough residents and the surrounding community 67 years ago to the day!! Undergoing a beautiful renovation over the last couple years, the library now offers everything you can imagine to service the needs of children and adults,” he said.

Grundy Foundation officials showcased the new look after the ribbon cutting with a new Library of Things demo, a group aerial shot, and coffee with Director Dana Barber to learn about the library’s latest improvements and a live 3D printer demonstration.

The Summer Quest summer reading program launched with the reopening and its 2023 theme “All Together Now” celebrates diversity and community. All children who sign up will receive a Summer Quest bag with everything they need to track their summer reading for a chance to win two free tickets to Sesame Place

The rave reviews rolled in and continue…
