Advocates for the Homeless and Those in Need announced late Friday the Code Blue shelter at Shir Ami Temple 101 Richborough Road in Newtown will remain open until Wednesday morning.
The Code Blue declaration comes on the heels of the shelter opening on last Tuesday night and for the remainder of the work week as frigid temps blasted the Philadelphia region.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory Friday afternoon that goes into effect Saturday. Snow is expected with accumulations of 1 to 3 inches NWS said with temps hoovering around 28 degrees around 7 p.m.
Bitterly cold conditions expected Sunday through Tuesday, coldest Sunday night through Monday morning with wind chills in the single digits, the weather service says which means extended exposure to the freezing conditions likely influenced ATHN’s decision to keep the Code Blue site open for guests.
