A determined crew of just under two dozen volunteers showed up Saturday at the Silver Lake Nature Center to help the healing process after last week’s brush fire.
Director Naturalist for SLNC, PattiAnn Cutter was heartbroken after last week’s blaze and at the same time truly grateful for what area first responders did to “save the forest.”
“With the area being more easily accessible (after the fire), it gave us an opportunity to plant new trees and to remove litter -that mostly washed up on the land there following rain storms and flooding – as it passed rhrough our local watershed,” Cutter said.

By the end of today’s event, we removed 40 bags of trash, 36 tires, and a few larger items including part of a boat and a big wheel, she added.
Still, Cutter’s sense of thanks and gratitude for what many would say is her second home she once again appreciated the work of volunteers this past weekend and by fire crews last weekend.
“SLNC extends a huge thank you to the 21 amazing Volunteers who came out to help Saturday …and…extend a huge thanks again to the 45 Firefighters who worked for hours to get the fire out!”
“We are overwhelmed by and thankful for the outpouring of help, and so grateful to be part of this wonderful Community,” Cutter said.
