Fitzpatrick Awards Congressional Citation to Bristol Girl for Fighting Childhood Cancer
Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick awarded a local girl a congressional citation and American flag for her efforts in fighting childhood cancer Saturday in Bristol Borough.
Sofia Arroyo, 11, and family were on hand holding their fifth annual Arroyo family Lemonade stand to fight cancer, when the surprise visit from the congressman happened yesterday.
Sofia, and her parents, were originally inspired to hold the now yearly charity event after Emily Dougherty, a 10th grader now at Conwell Egan Catholic High School, battled with Aplastic Anemia years ago.
Sofia’s mother, Sue called the visit by Congressman one of the highlights of the day.
Sofia, said during the Alex Lemonade Stand fundraiser two years ago it made her feel good to help kids her age who were sick.
“It’s just what I do, helping,” she said then.
As of Sunday morning, the fundraiser is close to reaching its $1500.00 fundraising goal.
Donations can still me made online to the charity at this link.
Congratulations to Sophia and her family on her amazing accomplishment in earning the congressional distinction.
