Bristol Twp Blights Two Homes on One Property, Shrinking List to 21 Vacants

Bristol Township earlier this month declared two more properties blighted during a presentation from Beau Fleming of the Township’s Building and Planning Department.

The township has pushed mightily in working to get vacant/abandoned homes “blighted” slashing the number from 204 in 2015 to 21 currently.

Of those 21 remaining homes, five are owned by the Redevelopment Authority of Bucks County and are in the process of being redeveloped, Fleming said.

5606 and 5608 Tremont Street which has been owned by Better Homes Inc. of Bucks County since 2008, which is a land parcel split into a duplex and is being treated as one parcel, officials said.

The Township issued an initial blight code enforcement letter in August 2025 and there was no response or contact from the owner since, Fleming said. In addition, no rental inspections have been performed since 2012 and it has remained empty for years, according to neighbors.

Utilities remain active at the 5606 address but registered at baseline levels noting a single light is left on outside. The lawn is periodically mowed, but minimal work is done to maintain the structure, officials said.

The residence at 5608 Tremont Street was damaged in a fire, with all utilities shut off since 2022. Water provider Aqua confirmed that service to the unit had been terminated, officials said.

“At this time, the entire parcel is uninhabitable and no one is living there,” Fleming said, adding that there are no back taxes owed on the property.

Council approved the resolution unanimously under Pennsylvania’s Urban Redevelopment Law.

The blighted property program has been so successful state Representatives Tina Davis, a Democrat and Joe Hogan, a Republican, teamed up to co-sponsor a measure modeled after the work by township officials.

The bipartisan bill is now sitting in the Senate’s Urban Affairs and Housing Committee.
