Pickleball Courts are “Ready to Roll” at Falls Quaker Penn Park with new Subcontractor Hiired

Residents of Falls have been calling for pickleball courts for years and their wish will finally come true by spring 2025.

The Falls Supervisors approved a new subcontractor under Keystone Sports Construction earlier this month to install four pickleball courts at Quaker Penn Park during their workshop meeting.

Brian Andrews, director of parks and recreation, said the work was supposed to begin in June but was delayed due to the previous subcontractor’s failure to meet township requirements.

The project is now “ready to roll,” Andrews told the board.

Previously, the township had allocated $294,407.02 for the project in its 2023 budget. According to Andrews, the project may be partially subsidized by a state grant.

Due to the popularity of the courts, neighboring Middletown and Lower Makefield townships have been begging Andrews for years to add more. “It’s been booming everywhere,” he said.

It will be a “great addition” to Quaker Penn, which has seen other upgrades and additions in recent years, including new restrooms and a playground. Andrews said the courts will make the park more attractive.

Tennis and pickleball are similar, but pickleball courts are smaller.

A first-come, first-served basis will initially apply to courts. Andrews said he anticipates reservations in the future, along with organized programs and some leagues.

“The possibilities are endless,” Andrews said.

The courts will be located next to the children’s playground. Andrews said some field space could be used in the future if the township decided to add more courts.
