Bucks County author, Lisa DeAngelis has been named a 2024 Courage to
Write Grantee of The De Groot Foundation.
The private family foundation, based in Miami Beach, Fla., is dedicated to supporting the literary arts, discovering new voices and encouraging emerging writers. Grants are awarded to deserving writers as they further or complete a specific project that has come to the attention of the foundation.
With the support of the de Groot Foundation, DeAngelis will complete her
upcoming novel, “Granny Panties,” with an anticipated release date in
2025. The novel is set in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and centers on
three 70-year-old women who save a drowning man and live to regret it.
DeAngelis’ first book, “Angels Unaware,” was published by Regal House
Publishing, LLC in 2021. Also an accomplished playwright and
screenwriter, her works have garnered awards in such prestigious
national competitions as the Houston International Film Festival and the
Greater Philadelphia Film Office’s Shoot in Philadelphia competition. In
2019, DeAngelis was a winner of the Phillips’ Mill (New Hope,
Pennsylvania) Emerging Playwright Competition for her play “Upstaged,” a
comedic, behind-the-scenes look at a theatrical company and their
efforts to put on a show.
DeAngelis writes a weekly column titled “It’s a Living” for the Bucks
County Herald newspaper. The column is the anchor of the newspaper’s
business page and focuses on interesting occupations in the region along
with people who have made significant life changes in order to jump
start a second chapter in their work life.
