Campaign Signs Rigged with Razor Blades found in Upper Makefield, Cops Say

Over the years covering elections throughout the area, reports of signs being stolen, vandalized, or placed on private property in many ways is a norm.

There was even a fake mail in ballot box placed in Bristol Borough, for which no one was charged.

What happened in Upper Makefield two days ago, was much different, dangerously so.

According to Upper Makefield Township Police  campaign signs were placed without permission on an individual’s property.

“When the resident went to remove the Shapiro sign from their property they were cut by the razor blades placed around the perimeter of the sign. Obviously, this was designed to inflict punishment on anyone who attempted to remove the sign,” police said.

Police located additional signs with razor blades on them also and they were removed by officers.

The Bucks County Democratic Committee condemned the acts in a statement

“Every year we see an increasing number of cases in which political signs are vandalized in one form or another. Over the course of my time in public service I have had my own signs defaced and cut apart. This latest incident, which has taken this behavior to a new low is reprehensible as it risks people’s safety. The Bucks County Democratic party condemns what happened and hopes that whoever is responsible is brought to justice as soon as possible” said state Senator Steve Santarsiero, Chair of the Bucks County Democratic Committee.

Police said the investigation into the incident is ongoing and asked residents, “that if you find signs on your property that have been placed there without permission, to please inspect them prior to their removal” and contact police if implements are found.

“No matter your political affiliation, no matter your candidate preference, resorting to this type of depravity is unacceptable and criminal. We can do better and must,” police said.
