Consumer Protection Warns of Text “Smishing” Scams

The Bucks County Consumer Protection agency is warning residents about new scams using text messages to steal personal information
Consumer Protection Director Michael Bannon in a video clip released earlier Tuesday said residents have been reporting an uptick in smishing scams
The smishing scams are a new effort with an old goal, he said, to steal social security numbers, bank account numbers, or any personal information.
“Don’t fall for this particular trick” Bannon urged.
Bannon said if you reply to the text scam by responding with 7726 the message will go to the Federal Trade Commission
If you get a suspicious message you can call Bucks County Consumer Protection 215-348-6060
