Last week State Rep K.C Tomlinson’s bill 2271, otherwise known as Lindsey’s law passed the house,

The bills goal is to punish perpetrators of sextortion further if their victims commit suicide or harm themselves within 90 days.Sextortion, referring to the act of when someone threatens violence and other means of harassment if they do not get sexually explicit images or video of the individual in question.

This bill is in honor of Lindsey Piccone, a Bensalem resident who took her own life because of a man who was sextorting her. “Unfortunately, due to the abuse Lindsey suffered, she took her own life, leaving nothing but a note for her parents reading, ‘Before someone else ruins my life, I am ruining mine,’” Tomlinson said in a press release.

According to Tomlinson, the man in question is currently in jail after sextorting 20 other women. The bill was first presented to the house in the fall of 2021, and was able to get picked up more quickly then other bills would.

The bill will now be considered by the  state Senate, who will look at it when they meet in session at the end of May. Tomlinson is hoping to get the bill passed as soon as possible.

“I would hope that before we end this summer, we could get it on the governors desk.”
