Tuesday is Primary Day

Tuesday is Primary Day throughout  the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with important choices to be made by voters in federal and state races.

Candidates for Senator and Governor on both sides of the ticket are in the midst of making their last minute pitches to voters.

In race to win the nomination as Republican candidate for Governor, according to a Emerson College Poll of 1000 Republican Primary voters, State Senator Doug Mastriano now leads the race.  Mastriano was endorsed over the weekend by former President Donald Trump.

Spencer Kimball, Executive Director of Emerson College Polling said, “among those who have already voted, Mastriano has 13%, but his support rises to 37% of those who plan to vote on election day. His opponent Barletta is getting about an equal share with 25% of the early vote and 21% of the election day voters, according to a report from ABC 27.com 

As for the Senate race, the poll was conducted over the weekend where, Mehmet Oz holds 28% support, followed by Kathy Barnette with 24%, and David McCormick with 21%.

Fifteen percent (15%) are undecided, and were asked a follow-up question on who they are leaning towards. With their support allocated, Oz increases his support to 32%, followed by Barnette with 27%, and McCormick with 26%, the poll says. 

On the Democratic side for Governor, Attorney General Josh Shapiro is the only candidate of note and is expected to win Tuesday.

The race to be the Democratic nominee for Senate was thrown for a loop of sorts on Sunday with Lt. Governor John Fetterman announced he had a stroke.

Fetterman who is 52,  said he was resting and is well on the way to a full recovery.

His opponents Congressman Conor Lamb and state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta wished him well.

Lamb was in Bristol last month at Rep Tina Davis’ campaign kickoff event.

He said at the time with regards to his campaign that rebuilding a healthy and strong middle class is a key element of his campaign.

Fetterman is said to be the front runner in the race to fill the seat being vacated by Republican Pat Toomey.

Many observers see it is a “key race” for Democrats to maintain a majority in the Senate.
