A local man, and his twin brother, with other family and friends came across a discovery that’s going to lead to lot of questions and online sleuthing.
Bill Barnhardt along with his twin brother Frank were out for an afternoon stroll along the Delaware River Canal Path when they discovered several headstones lying in the river ‘s mouth at low tide Monday afternoon.
“I saw something out of place you know. I walked up on it and I’m looking at headstones” Bill said.
The curious find lead to all sorts of speculation as to how the memorials got there and where did they come from, as commenters under the original Facebook post sought to find answers.

The plaque in the story feature image engraved in Italian says ““ Here Lies Maria G Comegno.”
A second memorial simply has the name Woodward engraved with no other information inscribed.
Bill said he counted as many as five plaques there on shoreline, off of Old Route 13.
Its just really weird to see headstones here Bill said.
Borough Police were notified of the find Monday evening and plan to follow up, Tuesday.
For now, the headstones in the Delaware River remains Bristol’s own version if a 48 Hours mystery of sorts,

Wonder if they are from the old church that used to be there at the selecto mart in Bristol boro? Some got moved but I’ve been wondering where all those other stone went?!?

I’m wondering several different things actually- I know the police are looking into it – when answers of any kind become available, there will be a follow up story 🙂
