Sources: $1 Million More Coming to Bristol Borough Renovation Project

Two sources confirmed Friday more state funds will be coming into Bristol Borough to fund the redevelopment of Elm and Chestnut Streets.

Both officials said the announcement of the additional state funds will come sometime this upcoming week.

At the last week’s Bristol Borough Council meeting  State Sen. Steve Santarsiero and State Rep. Tina Davis, were part of check presentations, which included $1.3 million redevelopment of Elm and Chestnut streets Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).

Those funds will be used to purchase seven homes that remain.

Bristol Borough and the Redevelopment Authority of Bucks County have been purchasing homes on both streets in recent years with an eye on redeveloping the area. Last year homes on Elm Street were demolished.

“This project is so vital to the continuing Renaissance of Bristol Borough,” said Bristol Borough Council President Ralph DiGuiseppe.

When asked Friday about the additional $1 million coming into for the redevelopment project,  DiGuiseppe simple said “You have a good source.”

At last week’s presentation, Santarsiero, who was making his first official public appearance at a council meeting said the funds would help continue the economic growth of Bristol.

“Bristol Borough has seen great economic growth and revitalization in recent years, attracting new businesses and residents to the area. The redevelopment of the vacant properties at Chestnut and Elm Streets will help the Borough continue to expand its appeal and breathe new life into the area,” Santarsiero said.

Borough officials said recently there were no official plans for the site as of yet, but perhaps with the additional cash infusion Bristol is one step closer to deciding how to move forward.

Both sources said the additional funding announcement would have happened last week, but due to the mid-term elections it was delayed.

Santarsiero and State Rep. Tina Davis won their re-election efforts last week and will officially begin to represent the Borough in January 2023.

RACP is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. RACP projects have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues, or other measures of economic activity. RACP projects are state-funded projects that cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs.
