Automated Waste-Recycle Collection Comes to Falls Township with New Carts to be Delivered This Week

Falls Township – Get ready for Waste Management’s (WM) automated collection with new 96-gallon carts.

The trash haulers are “proud to provide efficient, automated cart services for your waste and recycling collection,” a company spokesperson said last week. 

New carts are to be delivered the week of May 27. Expected usage of your new carts starts on June 28.

Each resident will receive a 96 gallon waste & a 96 gallon recycling cart from Waste Management. The 64 gallon carts are only available to residents with mobility issues.

The size of the carts are listed below.

96 Gallons – Height (Lid to Ground): 46″ – Width: 23″- Depth: 31.5″

64 Gallons – Height (Lid to Ground): 44″ – Width: 22″ – Depth: 26.5″

Important facts from WM concerning the service and acceptable/unacceptable waste and recyclables.

Service will continue twice a week for waste and once a week for recycling. WM provides instruction on handling your curbside pickups.

If a holiday falls on your collection day, your service will be delayed until your next collection day. The following holidays are observed by Waste Management:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Fourth of July
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

The green cart with the yellow lid is for recycling only. Please place recyclable items loose into the cart. Don’t bag your recyclables and please don’t include any loose plastic bags.

The all green (green cart/green lid) is for waste.  Bag all trash before placing in your cart.

Place the carts at the street before 6 am on your collection day with lids closed; handle pointing away from the street. Please keep at least three feet between carts and make sure carts are three feet away from trees, cars, mailboxes, poles, etc.

Only one bulk item will be collected each week on the 2nd pickup day of the week. Place your bulk item at the curb on your second waste pickup day of the week. Bulk items include: mattress, box spring, furniture, appliance, or a large household item that does not fit in the cart. Carpet must be no more than four feet long and four feet wide, tied, or rolled and secured with duct tape. Each mattress and box spring must be bagged or wrapped in plastic prior to collection. Bags can be purchased at local hardware stores.

Please schedule your bulk item for the week by calling WM at 800-869-5566. Additional bulk items can be scheduled and removed for a charge. Call WM at 800-869-5566.

Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers or any items with CFC/Freon refrigerants must be pre-scheduled for pickup. Contact WM at 800-869-5566 to schedule

Household Hazardous Wastes are not accepted.  Toxic chemicals, pesticides, pool chemicals, oil-based paints, weed killers, automotive batteries, and fuels or fluids must be disposed of properly, and never placed in the trash or recycling. Electronics can not be disposed as waste.  Under PA state law, all TVs, computers, laptops, printers or monitors must be properly recycled and will not be collected at the curb. For options, click here for the Falls Twp site or here for the Bucks Government site

Great things happen when residents ‘Recycle Right’. By recycling everyday items like those shown below, tons of raw materials, time, energy and money are saved.

Empty recyclables loosely into your cart. Do NOT bag recyclables. NO Loose Plastic Bags, Wrap, Bagged Recyclables, or Film. Empty recyclables directly into your cart.

  • NO Food
  • NO Liquids
  • NO Styrofoam
  • NO Polystyrene Cups
  • No Polystyrene Containers
  • NO Green Waste
  • NO Batteries – Check local drop-off programs for proper disposal.
  • NO Clothing
  • NO Furniture
  • NO Carpets
