LMT Continues Discussion on Enacting Stormwater Utility Fee

At their, November 19, meeting the Lower Makefield Township Board of Supervisors continued its discussion regarding the potential implementation of a stormwater utility fee to support the Township’s stormwater management program.

According to a release, representatives from Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. (HRG) provided a follow-up presentation outlining potential rate structures/approaches and highlighted various credit options. While no final decision was made relative to rate structure, the Board expressed general preference for the two-tiered rate structure with the Tier 1 impervious surface range of 300-4,999 square feet. Based on the current financial modeling, this would result in a rate of $8.50 per month for the average single family residential property.

The Board is exploring this option as part of its broader commitment to maintaining and improving critical stormwater infrastructure, addressing flooding concerns, and meeting state and federal stormwater management mandates. A stormwater utility fee would provide a dedicated and sustainable funding source to support these efforts.

Discussions will continue at future public meetings, said officials, and additional information will be released  as the municipality evaluates its next steps.

The full HRG presentation from the November 19th meeting is available here.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed and participate in upcoming discussions.
