Families, neighbors, and children of all ages are invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony and to enjoy the new playground for the very first time during the free event celebrating the new Lions Park in Snowball Gate, Levittown.
The ceremony will take place on Saturday, Dec 13 from Noon to 2 p.m at 300 Snowball Drive in Levittown. Lions Park sits at the prominent corner of Trenton Road and Veterans Highway. Its bright, vibrant new playground equipment was intentionally selected to complement this highly visible area and bring life and color to a major Township gateway.
Middletown Township officials, Parks & Recreation staff, and members of the Board of Supervisors will be onsite to commemorate the project and celebrate another step forward in enhancing Middletown’s parks.
The Lions Park project represents a collaborative and strategic investment in one of Middletown’s oldest playgrounds. The former equipment—installed approximately 28 years ago—had reached the end of its useful life. Middletown Township typically aims to replace playgrounds every 15–19 years, making this an important and timely upgrade. The project was funded through a blend of Township resources, grant support, and in-house expertise:
- $120,000 for new playground equipment was funded by Middletown Township.
- Installation by certified playground professionals was supported through a Pennsylvania State grant in partnership with GameTime, valued at approximately $35,000.
- The site preparation, new pathway, and construction of a four-space parking lot were completed “in-kind” by the Middletown Township Department of Public Works, whose team provided labor and materials to support the project.
The Board of Supervisors approved the project at the April 7, 2025 public meeting.
The Township’s Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) has been planting trees throughout the Lions Park corridor. As these trees mature alongside the new playground equipment, the township looks forward to creating a more shaded, sustainable, and welcoming recreational space for years to come.
“Lions Park has always been a gathering place for families, and this upgrade ensures it will continue to serve our residents safely and beautifully for decades to come. We are proud to provide a space that encourages play, community, and outdoor activity for children of all ages,” said Director of Parks & Recreation Paul Kopera praising the project as a major investment in community well-being.
“Parks are at the heart of strong communities. This project reflects the Township’s commitment to creating safe, accessible, and vibrant spaces for families. Lions Park is a beloved neighborhood landmark, and we’re excited to celebrate this long overdue improvement with our residents,” said Board of Supervisors Dana Kane highlighting the importance of investing in neighborhood parks.
