Falls Township children in the Vermilion Hills section will have new playground equipment by year’s end, as the Board of Supervisors approved equipment purchases this week.

Falls Supervisors approved the purchase of a new play unit with handicapped accessible ramp at Kirby Park with the cost coming just under $10,000.00

The company, MRC Inc., agreed to donate the playground installation. MRC supplies playground and recreation equipment to 11 states/

Parks and Recreation Director Brian Andrews estimated that the total cost would be roughly double the price of the equipment purchase alone if the Township was responsible for the entire cost of the purchase.

Even though the labor will be undertaken at no cost, it would still be under full warranty, Andrews said.

The park’s current playground is 21 years old, Andrews said. He’s undertaken a recent evaluation of the park systems and determined many of the playgrounds are approaching the 15 to 20-year range.

By upgrading and replacing old equipment Andrews said the township will be making the playgrounds safer for children. The Parks & Rec Director said he hopes up to upgrade two playgrounds a year.

“It’s going to be a constant upkeep,” he said.
