Formation of Bipartisan Law Enforcement Caucus Announced by Rep Munroe

State Rep. Brian Munroe (D-Bucks) announced the formation of the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Caucus at a news conference in the state Capitol on Wednesday.

Munroe said the bipartisan initiative aims to foster collaboration between policymakers and the law enforcement community to create legislative solutions to enhance public safety and support the dedicated men and women in uniform.

The Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Caucus is dedicated to advancing policies that enhance public safety, improve training and resources for law enforcement personnel, and bridge the gap between officers and the communities they protect. By bringing together lawmakers, active and retired law enforcement professionals, and community leaders, the caucus aims to strengthen public safety and build better relationships between law enforcement and the public.

“As a former police officer, I understand the challenges that law enforcement professionals face on a daily basis,” Munroe said. “But it’s equally important to recognize the need for greater trust and understanding between law enforcement and the communities they serve. This caucus will not only provide critical support for law enforcement but will also help foster stronger ties with the public, ensuring that our safety initiatives benefit everyone.”

Munroe, a former Radnor Township Police Department corporal, will chair the caucus along with state Rep. Eric Weaknecht, R-Berks, a former Berks County deputy sheriff.

“The Law Enforcement Caucus is a bipartisan effort to support law enforcement officers in the Commonwealth by advancing meaningful legislation,” Weaknecht said. “I am proud to serve as the Republican chair and look forward to working with the Democratic chair, Representative Munroe.”

Newly sworn in state Rep. Dan Goughnour, D-Allegheny, a 16-year veteran of the McKeesport Police Department, will also participate in the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Caucus.

“A few weeks ago, I was a police captain on the streets of McKeesport, and just this week I was sworn in as a lawmaker – I’m here to help my brothers and sisters in uniform keep McKeesport and communities like it everywhere safe,” Goughnour said. “Making sure police departments have the funding for officers and safety equipment is vital, and I’m proud to be standing with officers and lawmakers so we can all work together for the ultimate goal: safer communities for every Pennsylvanian.”

The first meeting of the caucus took place immediately after the announcement.

“By working together — law enforcement, legislators and the public — we can create policies that support our officers and promote safer communities,” Munroe said. “This caucus provides a unique opportunity for current and retired law enforcement professionals to contribute to the future of public safety and make a lasting impact.”

The Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Police support the creation of the caucus it said across its socials.

“The PA FOP would like to express its gratitude to Rep. Brian Munroe and @PA State Rep. Eric Weaknecht for their leadership in establishing the Law Enforcement Caucus. We’d also like to thank the members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives who have stepped forward to serve in this newly formed caucus” an official said on social media/.

Munroe represents the 144th Legislative District comprised of Ivyland, Warminster, Warrington and part of New Britain Township in Bucks County.
