PennDOT announced various construction activities including milling, paving, and bridge repair will continue at night this weekend and next week on Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Philadelphia under a $36.8 million project to resurface and repair nearly five miles of the interstate, the associated on-and-off ramps, and more than 20 bridges.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
- Saturday, September 7, and Sunday, September 8, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on sections of eastbound and westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) between the U.S. 1 and I-676 (Vine Street Expressway) interchanges for high-friction surface treatment.
- Saturday, September 7, through Friday, September 13, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, the ramp from westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to Girard Avenue will be closed and detoured for milling and bridge repair. Motorists will be directed to continue on westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway), exit at Montgomery Drive and use the ramp to eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to access Girard Avenue.
- Monday, September 9, through Friday, September 13, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on sections of eastbound and westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) between the U.S. 1 and 30th Street Station interchanges for milling, paving and guiderail installation.
- Thursday, September 12, and Friday, September 13, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, the ramp from Spring Garden Street to westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) will be closed and detoured for milling. Motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour route to access westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway).
- Thursday, September 12, and Friday, September 13, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, the ramp from Girard Avenue to westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) will be closed and detoured for milling and paving. Motorists will be directed to use Belmont Avenue and Montgomery Drive to access westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway).
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through or near the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
