Council President Says Efforts to “Short Cut” Proposed Ban Was Factor in Delaying Truck Ban Vote

Morrisville Borough Council President Helen Hlahol took a moment to explain why council did not vote on the S. Pennsylvania Avenue truck ordinance at the Tuesday night meeting and added additional streets to the proposed ordinance.

Hlahol said, Borough officials were concerned that trucks might attempt to use local roads as shortcuts in avoiding S. Pennsylvania Avenue. The council president also said some of the streets were added due to the warehouse being built in Falls Township off Post Road that was approved last May by the neighboring municipality.

Central Avenue, West Post Road, Ohio Avenue, Park Avenue, and Riverside Drive were added as no-go zones for trucks/tractor trailers weighing over 10 tons as of Tuesday’s meeting.

Borough Police will continue to warn truck drivers about the impending ordinance change as a new public notice is published and advertised with an expected vote at the December Council meeting.

The council president who was joyous when the plan to ban trucks from S. Pennsylvania Avenue was announced after years of pushing for it seemed to describe the delayed vote and implementation as a challenge.

“Despite the obstacles Morrisville Borough continuously faces, we are committed to finding ways to overcome these challenges,” said Hlahol.

Although the specific obstacles were not clarified, it’s clear she is (and Council) completely invested in finding solutions to the challenges they face.
