A good Samaritan at a Bristol Township Shoprite observed a man shoplifting and tried to stop the alleged would-be thief; getting into a fight before the man fled and was taken into custody by police.
Sean O’Connor 23, of Bethlehem, Pa was arraigned last week on two counts of felony robbery, simple assault, retail theft, evading arrest and related offenses by District Judge Terrence Hughes who sent him to Bucks County Correctional in lieu of 10 percent of $100,000.00.
According to the probable cause, police were dispatched on June 11 to the Shoprite, 500 block S. Oxford Valley Road around 2:45 p.m. for a fight in progress involving two men; a woman with the Bucks County Radio Room advised responding officers, the suspect, described as a Hispanic male with rust-colored pants and a blue shirt, was heading up S. Old’s Boulevard. Officers approached O’Connor who started to run but was caught and quickly taken into custody.
O’Connor, police wrote in court papers, refused to speak with responding officers and kept yelling he wanted to die and wanted police to shoot him.
A responding officer went to the Shoprite to interview the victim-witness- J.J., who had a bruised right eye which was bleeding, police said.
J.J told police he was attacked by O’Connor when he tried to stop him from shoplifting from the supermarket, in which he stole multiple times. J.J gave police O’Connor’s jacket which had various items hidden in it from the supermarket valued at $80.00. He was taken to a local medical facility for treatment of his injuries, court records show.
Initially, an arrest warrant was filed for O’ Connor on June 11 by Bristol authorities.
