Calling his actions heinous and monstrous, a Bucks County judge sentenced Carlos Navedo to 35 to 70 years in a state correctional facility for repeatedly raping a girl in Bristol Township, the Bucks County District Attorney’s office announced Thursday.
Navedo, 52, of Bristol Township, was convicted by a Bucks County jury in October of rape of a child, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, and corruption of minors.
Several dozen relatives of the victim, wearing purple and pink sweatshirts in support of the victim, filled the courtroom. The victim, now 13, was among six people who provided victim impact statements during sentencing Thursday, telling Common Pleas Judge Stephen A. Corr that Navedo “took my childhood away from me,” a press release after today’s sentencing hearing said.
The investigation found that Navedo raped the girl from January 2021 to December 2023.
The victim, who is now 13, courageously testified on the first day of trial last year, said, she was 10 or 11 years old when Navedo first raped her. She said he continued to sexually assault her on other occasions and also would show her pornography
The victim’s mother, father and other relatives also read victim impact statements that detailed the suffering the victim endured when she was just nine years old and the emotional trauma she continues to go through every day. They all pleaded with Judge Corr to send Navedo away to prison for decades. “Protect our children and sentence this monster to the maximum sentence allowed,” one aunt said.
Before handing down a sentence, Judge Corr reminded the victim that she has many people in her corner to protect her and keep her safe, as evidenced by the packed courtroom. “When things get dark, just think of everyone in this room right now,” Corr said. “You have a ton of support.” In addition to the state prison sentence, Corr ordered that Navedo have no contact with the victim and her family. An assessment done for the state Sexual Offender Assessment Board found that Navedo did not meet the criteria to be declared a sexually violent predator. As a Tier III sex offender, Navedo will have to register with Megan’s Law for the rest of his life, authorities said.
“I commend this remarkably strong child and her team that fought so that justice could be served,” District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said. “Thanks to the courage she displayed, despite having unimaginable acts inflicted upon her at such a young age, and to the tireless efforts of her team, this child predator will likely never see life outside of the four walls of a state correctional facility.”
Navedo was charged in January, following an investigation by Bristol Township Detective John Jennings. This case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Brittney Kern.
